Do You Need a Ladder?

I love what I do. I am passionate about helping people improve their looks, health, self-confidence and living lives full of adventure.

Whilst doing this I sometimes have people contact me who want to be fit, healthy and lose weight but they aren’t really committed to making a change in their circumstances. They have a success disconnect. They want to lose weight, be healthier, look better but for some incomprehensible reason, they don’t see a connection between their desire for success and the behaviour they are embracing.

I may offer them advice, map out a process that will help them reach their goals and they will tell me all the reasons those ideas won’t work for them, I don’t have time, I can’t afford it, I don’t like X food, I have knee pain, I have/don’t have …

You see they are in a hole (their comfort zone) their happy in this hole and they don’t want a ladder.

I have also learned that there are people that think this hole is the natural state of things. They feel comfortable with where they are. They have become so accustomed to the great big hole they reside in that they think it is just part of the landscape.

Now, I know that they may really need a ladder. They just don’t want a ladder. My entire professional career has been dedicated to those who want a ladder. I want to work with people who recognize they are in a hole and they want out, they want a ladder.

I have also learned over time that when it comes to taking advice, some will, some won’t, and that is OK. Not everyone is in a place where they recognize they even need a ladder.

Before they can want it, they need to recognize that they need it. If they don’t recognize that they need it, then my offering them help or a ladder will be of no use whatsoever.

I can’t help people who don’t want help, or who don’t know they need help.

I can, however, help the ones who recognize their condition and know they want out. More importantly, they not only want out of the hole they are currently in, but they will do just about whatever it takes to get themselves out of that hole. I can only help those who are ready and willing to be helped.
